All these Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the very best banana flavored cookie I've ever had. Not only are they really are moist and simmer for times, but they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of those flavors that could get lost once you inhale with it. It can be really delicate flavor. It always bums me out if that occurs, because I LOVE the taste of banana. And thus does the hubs.

So when good brewed banana treats come together, we move a little crazy for them.

These cookies make the listing of banana items to go crazy for. Without a doubt.

And they're so moistthey melt in your mouth. Additionally, with both banana and oats in them, they are basically healthy, right? And perfect for breakfast!

Making them is equally as simple as eating them.

You've got the usual suspects -- butter, brown sugar, white sugar, an egg, vanilla and mashed bananas. You begin with mixing all of those lovely ingredients together.

I have to warn you. The odor of the mixture -- using the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was at the kitchen making the dough together with me (we made a bargain that contained him baking with me) and we both had to work hard not to put our faces, or a straw, straight in to it.

You then add all of the ingredients (which means you only use one bowl yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake them, spoon out about a tablespoon of bread and produce a thick disc, instead of a chunk. They spread a bit when baking, and thus don't put them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a fine, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 additional thing I really like about this recipe is really where it came from.

My grandma (my dad's mom) passed away in 2008. After I started baking a lot a few years back, my uncle gave me her cookbook he'd had and didn't use. I've had it in my list to make several her desserts ever since.

My dad and I left her gaufrettes (a French cookie -- my grandparents were French) a year or so past. It was a tradition for my grandma to make them every Christmas! She gave everyone a large tin of these, which had been quite a feat with 6 sons.

I now know just how much of an effort it had been! My goodness. She made them using a conventional gaufrette iron that goes over an open flame. My father and I had them around the stove. They cook very quickly and you need to be precise. Too little time and they kind of disintegrated to the iron. Overly long and they burnt to the iron and we had to wash it out.

My dad was massaging the batter and removing the biscuits, I had been operating the ironthe hubs was timing things. It required quite a few tries to get it right, but they were so great! I've tried to make them on my own and it never works. I would like to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are so tough to find. And expensive. At some point, I'd love to just make a cookie cutter with the same gaufrette taste.

For today though, I'm sharing these cookies. I really don't believe I ever had them when she made thembut they are from her novel.

It's such a fun recipe book to look through, too. There are many handwritten pages, clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped to the publication. I adore the way they used to compose recipes at the paper -- they had the individual who filed it is title and cute little tales. It is so enjoyable to browse ! What a different time on the planet!

Anyways, I do not know click here for more where this recipe came out. The paper looks like it had been on a flier from their square dance group or something (they were big to square dance ). It is definitely from West Virginia, where they dwelt.



In any event, I'm so happy to finally share a recipe out of her novel with you! I made a couple of adjustments to make them thicker and more puffier and they are delicious. There'll be more to come out of her recipe book, but for the time being like the banana.

Banana Oatmeal Cookies



Yield: 34-36 COOKIES


INGREDIENTS:

3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use Challenge Butter)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup mashed bananas



1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch



DIRECTIONS:

2. Add flour, cinnamon, baking soda, cloves and cornstarch and mix until blended.

3. Stir in milk.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

5. Flatten dough just a little bitinto thick disks. They'll spread a little when boiled.

7. Remove from oven and cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then move to cooling rack to finish cooling.
